On the other hand though, a poodle could have been the offending dog in this story, when it's all said and done. Just never leave babies/children alone with dogs. Even if they aren't being malicious a dog can cause harm from curiosity. Infants are small, they smell different, they make odd sounds, they dont move like adults...
Bingo! Pits were bred to be protectors and watch dogs, not cuddly lap dogs. Like elp6n said, they are also from fighting blood lines. They were not originally meant to be cuddly house pets. Some of them have adapted to the cuddly house pet, though.

As per the poodle, don't laugh. Most people immediately think toy or tea cup. A full-sized poodle can be just as possessive and vicious as a pit bull, just not quite as strong. But after having been attacked by one of those as a child myself, I want to ban the breeding of those dogs. People laugh when you say a poodle attacked you until they stand beside a full-grown, full-sized version with a bad attitude.
